FUROSHIKI　~風呂敷~

Furoshiki is a square-shaped cloth used to wrap, carry, and store things.
In Japan, it has long been popular as a cloth for wrapping and carrying things.

The name “furoshiki” is said to have come from the Muromachi period (1333-1573), when people used to wrap their undressed clothes in a cloth bearing their family crest to prevent them from being mixed in with other people's clothes when taking a bath, and lay it under their feet after getting out of the bath to get ready on it.

As time went by, the furoshiki became popular as a tool for conveying feelings by being used to carry luggage or to wrap gifts with various auspicious designs.

In recent years, furoshiki has gained popularity around the world as a sustainable and beautiful gift wrapping material that produces no waste.

風呂敷とは、物を包み持ち運んだり収納したりするための正方形に近い形の布のことです。
日本では昔から物を包んだり、運んだりする布として親しまれてきました。

その名の由来は室町時代、お風呂に入る際に他人の衣類に紛れないよう自分の家紋の入った布に脱いだ衣類を包み、お風呂からあがった際には足下に敷いてその上で身支度をしたからと言われています。

時代の移り変わりとともに、風呂敷は荷物を持ち運ぶのに使われたり、様々な吉祥文様を施し贈り物を包むことで、気持ちを伝えるツールとしても普及していきました。

ゴミの出ないサスティナブルで美しいプレゼント包装としても、近年世界中で人気を集めています。
