Sashico Ori　- 刺子織-

Sashico is a type of needlework in which fabric is sewn or stitched together.

It is said that stitching started when people sewed layers of cloth by hand to reinforce and keep warm clothes, as well as to decorate them with their wishes and prayers for a good harvest, protection against evil, and business prosperity.

As time went by, such stitching was mechanized instead of being done by hand, and a cotton fabric was developed that was woven in such a way as to produce the stitching pattern.

This is called "Sashico Ori.

This carefully woven fabric produces a beautiful expression that plain weave does not have.

刺し子は、布地をつづり縫いや刺し縫いする針仕事のことです。

衣服の補強や保温に加えて、豊作・魔よけ・商売繁盛といった人々の願いや祈りを込めた装飾のために、重ねた布を手で刺し縫いしたのが始まりと言われています。

そんな刺子は、時代の流れとともに手作業から機械化されるようになり、刺子の模様が出るように織った綿織物が開発されました。

これが｢刺子織｣です。

丁寧に織られたその生地は、平織には無い美しい表情を作り出します。

Namigashira　-波頭-

There are several types of Japanese wave patterns, and this one is called "Namigashira.

Namigashira is used as a lucky charm to signify eternity, immortality, longevity, and birth, as the waves never cease coming and going.
　
It is also said that this pattern is for a strong will and an indomitable spirit to challenge again and again without giving up, because the waves come in and change the shape and topography of rocks.

波の和柄は数種類あり、こちらは「波頭」という和柄です。

波頭は、躍動感のある波を表したもので、寄せては返す波は果てることがなく、永遠・不滅・長寿・誕生などを意味する吉祥文様として用いられます。
　
何度も押し寄せ岩の形や地形をも変えてしまうことから、強い意志を持ち、あきらめず何度でもチャレンジする不撓不屈の精神を願う柄とも言われています。
